For Vulkan support ( Ivy Bridge and newer), install the vulkan-intel package. Beside this functionality, this package is generally not recommended, see note below. For the DDX driver which provides 2D acceleration in Xorg, install the xf86-video-intel package. For 32-bit application support, also install the lib32-mesa or lib32-mesa-amber package from the multilib repository. This driver has better performance and stability for Gen 7 and older hardware. mesa-amber is the legacy Mesa package which includes the classic (non-Gallium3D) drivers for Gen 2 hardware and later. This is the recommended choice for Gen 8 and later hardware. mesa is the up-to-date Mesa package which includes the modern Gallium3D drivers for Intel's Gen 3 hardware and later. 
Install one of the following packages, which provide the DRI driver for 3D acceleration. See Xorg#Driver installation to identify your card. Intel's Gen N hardware does not refer to the generation of the CPU, it refers to the generation of the GPU, which is different from the generation of the CPU. PowerVR-based graphics ( GMA 3600 series) are not supported by open source drivers. Install the DCH drivers that were downloaded in step 1 Restart the computer. (Repeat steps 6.1.1 through 6.1.4 until the device gets listed as 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter')ħ. In the pop-up window make sure 'Delete the driver software for this device is checked.Ĥ. Right-click on 'Intel HD Graphics' or similar, and select 'Uninstall Device'Ģ. At this point we can remove Legacy drivers from Device Manager:ġ. If the adapter continues to be listed as ‘Intel HD Graphics’ or similar, and no other Intel Graphics driver is listed under 'Apps and Features' for removal, then it means Windows has switched to a previously installed Legacy driver. Confirm in Device Manager > Video Adapters that the controller is listed as 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' > if not, repeat steps 2 through 4.Ħ. Uninstall the driver and the Intel Graphics Command Center and driver from Apps and Features.ĥ. Disconnect from the Internet so no new drivers are automatically installed by Windows Update.ģ. 
Download the latest DCH drivers and save them on the computer: Ģ. However, I would like to recommend performing a clean installation of the Intel generic graphics driver, please follow these steps:ġ. Intel’s generic graphics drivers are intended for testing, and we recommend using drivers from the system manufacturer (OEM). You should know that there are two different types of drivers, generics provided by Intel and Equipment Manufacturer drivers, that are customized to work with each specific system. Did you test the behavior before installing the graphics driver?.Did you try rolling back the driver version?.How did you set the Monitor to be powered off by Windows?.
